French authorities to begin stopping migrant vessels in English Channel after UK pressure

French officials have consented to start intercepting small boats in the Channel, following an extended period of insistence from the UK.

This policy shift follows the British leader wrote to the President asking him to support the initiative and stating there presently "lack any effective deterrent" in the Channel.

French security forces have been authorized to intercept the small boats at sea, but only before they've picked up their passengers, according to authoritative confirmation.

French police have infrequently intervened to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is viewed as too great a danger to both personnel and individuals.

"It is crucial that we deploy these tactics this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel waters."

Currently, a French maritime police spokesperson says personnel will begin taking action at sea, with the objective of protecting lives.

Notably, the spokesperson excluded the use of nets to stop boats, which had earlier been suggested as a potential method to snarl the engines of the vessels.

This determination to take action at all is a major advancement, coming after a brief change towards a stricter approach this warmer season, which dropped off when the former government official left government.

That was highlighted in the summer month, preceding a summit between the Prime Minister and President, when authorities were witnessed wading into the sea to damage the sides of a boat.

Currently French authorities will again be allowed to stop boats prior to they pick up migrant passengers from the beaches of France's north coast, although it's not clear how the vessels will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are presently postponing the commencement of intervention operations and the human trafficking gangs will be looking for ways to adjust to avoid interception, as they have done so often in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and Downing Street have been contacted for comment.
